Shilpora makes and sells the unglamorous things that keep a home running: extension boards, switches, wires, work gloves, candles. Nothing here is exciting on a spec sheet. All of it matters the day it fails.
Why we started
Walk into any hardware shop and you will find two kinds of extension board. The cheap one, which browns around the socket within a year, and the imported one, which costs four times more than it should. We could not find a good option in the middle, so we started building one.
What we actually check
- Copper, not aluminium. Every board we sell uses multistrand copper flex. We publish the cross-section in the product description.
- Real socket contacts. Brass, with enough spring pressure to still hold a plug after a hundred insertions.
- Flame-retardant housings. Glow-wire rated PVC and ABS on our plastic boards, seasoned hardwood on the wooden ones.
- Load ratings we can defend. If a board says 16A, it is wired for 16A end to end.
Beyond electricals
The home and garden range grew out of the same habit. Our gardening gloves have a coated palm because uncoated cotton is useless on a wet trowel. Our candles are soy wax with cotton wicks because paraffin and metal-cored wicks leave soot on your ceiling.
